The officials of our Ministry and the Country Team of United Nations convened for the post-earthquake studies.

At the UN Country team meeting held in Ankara, the delegation of our Ministry, headed by our Director General Oğuz Tuncay, exchanged views with the UN Country Team on economic and social construction works in the provinces hit by the earthquake.

The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) hosted representatives of our Ministry this week at the regular UNCT meeting held at the Türkiye Office of International Labour Organization (ILO) located in Ankara on July 6, 2023.

The meeting was attended by representatives of UN organizations and a large delegation, headed by Oğuz Tuncay, the Director General for Foreign Relations, consisting of representatives from relevant departments of our Ministry.

Our Director General Oğuz Tuncay reminded that our Ministry deals with all issues that fall under the jurisdiction of various UN organizations, not only those related to working life. “The Ministry and the UN are working hand in hand to cooperate more, not only on earthquake interventions, but also in many areas including children, migrants, women and the people with special needs,” said Mr. Tuncay.

UN Resident Coordinator Alvaro Rodriguez also reiterated the commitment and technical support of UN agencies to efforts to address short- and long-term needs and challenges arising from earthquakes.  Rodriguez said, "We are building our healing framework on four pillars. These are ongoing humanitarian needs, economic recovery, social services and social development, resilience and sustainability. We are aware that it will be more difficult to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals but we sustain our belief in the power of our partnership and commitment.”

Giovanni di Cola, who was appointed as the Interim Director of the ILO Office for Türkiye, said that the ILO focuses on supporting decent and sustainable jobs, labour-based programmes that ensure business continuity and social parties as key actors of social dialogue in relation to the recovery process in cooperation with the UN and national and local authorities.

The meeting ended as the participants stressed the need to strengthen cooperation to accelerate progress towards achieving the sustainable development goals during and after the recovery.
