The 5th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour by ILO was held in South Africa.

Türkiye's fight against child labour was shared as a “Good Example" at the conference.

The "5th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour", organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and hosted by the Government of South Africa, was held on May 15-20, 2022, in Durban, South Africa.

Representatives of government, workers, employers, civil society, financial and academic organizations of the ILO member states attended the Conference, where Nurcan Önder, the Director General of Labour, and the accompanying delegation represented Türkiye.

The progress made since the previous conferences, the current state in the fight against child labour and the work that countries have successfully carried out in this area were shared at the Conference, where Türkiye's fight against child labour stood out as a “good example”.

Ahmet Tunç Demirtaş, a Labour Expert from our General Directorate, was appointed for the Drafting Committee to represent the European Region at the conference, where "Durban Call to Action to End Child Labour” was adopted.

The first International Conference on Child Labour held in Norway in 1997 stands out as a global platform for sharing good practices and developing new policies to combat child labour- a critical issue for all the countries. After Norway, the Conference was convened in the Netherlands in December in 2010, in Brazil in 2013 and in Argentina in 2017. It is organized at regular intervals to ensure that the fight against child labour remains on the agenda of all stakeholders.
