Ahmet Erdem was born in 1956 in the Province of Tokat. He received graduate and post-graduate degrees in Ankara. Mr. Erdem joined the Ministry of Labour and Social Security in 1975 and has served at various positions since then.
As the Secretary General of the Higher Board of Arbitration of the Ministry, he worked on settling collective agreement disputes among workers’ and employers’ associations. Later on he worked as an Advisor to the Minister.
Mr. Erdem served as Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry in the periods of 1996-1997 and 2003-2007 where he was responsible for the activities of Directorate General of Labour, Directorate General of Occupational Health and Safety and Human Resources Department.
In 2007 Mr. Erdem was appointed as the Undersecretary of the Ministry. He held this post until 2009 when he was appointed as the Advisor to the Prime Minister. In his capacity as the Advisor to the Prime Minister, he was responsible for the issues related to employment, social dialogue and labour markets.
In 2014, he was appointed as the Undersecretary of the Ministry for a second term.
Mr. Erdem has been appointed as the Minister of Labour and Social Security on August28, 2015 in the 63rd Temporary Government. He was reappointed as Undersecretary of the Ministery after the end of Temporary Goverment.
Undersecretary Erdem is married and has two children.
